GetReading ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal reading tracker and book management app. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. We believe in plain language — if anything here is unclear, please reach out.
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your display name and profile picture URL. This is provided directly by Firebase Authentication (Google).
Reading data
Everything you add to the app — books, reading plans, reading logs, session entries, lists, notes, and preferences — is stored in your personal account database (Firebase Firestore). This data belongs to you.
Book cover images
If you upload a custom cover photo for a book, it is stored in Firebase Storage, linked to your account.
Device and preference data
We store your in-app preferences (theme, date format, default book format, notification times, timezone) in your account so they sync across devices. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data beyond the timezone you configure.
Push notification subscription
If you enable push notifications, your browser generates a push subscription endpoint (a URL unique to your browser/device). We store this endpoint server-side solely to deliver the notifications you requested. You can revoke this at any time in Settings.
Payment information (Pro subscribers)
Payments are processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number, expiry, or CVV. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status (active/cancelled, renewal date) in your account record so the app knows whether your Pro access is current.
We do not use your reading data for advertising, do not build behavioral profiles, and do not sell or rent your information to third parties.
GetReading relies on the following third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy policy linked below.

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (or request deletion by emailing us), we will permanently delete your Firestore data, push subscription records, and cover images within 30 days. Stripe retains payment records for its own legal and compliance obligations; we have no control over that data once processed.
All data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in Google's Firebase infrastructure, which provides encryption at rest and in transit. Access to your data is controlled by Firebase Security Rules — only you can read or write your own records. We use Firebase's Secret Manager to store sensitive server-side credentials (e.g. Stripe keys), which are never exposed in client code.
No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security issue, please contact us at the address below before disclosing it publicly.

GetReading is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users (e.g. via an in-app notice). Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
